The Blue Man Group originated in the late 1980s with eight men covering their faces with azure masks and a casket containing a variety of decade hallmarks. This “Funeral for the 80s” would ignite the group’s genesis, as the performers involved burned the items like offerings. While most original members moved in different directions, Phil Stanton, Chris Wink, and Matt Goldman would become the act’s most loyal members.
They coordinated additional street performances that examined similar conceptual subjects, gaining a reputation throughout Manhattan. Eventually, the trio extended their acts to hole-in-the-wall venues.
