Blue Man Group

Briar Street Theatre

Welcome the world-famous Blue Man Group starting Friday 17th January 2025 at Briar Street Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. If you're a fan of interactive shows that diverge from the norm, this will be the can't-miss event of the winter.

Blue Man Group Origins

Blue Man Group started as a mere social experiment organized by three friends, Matt Goldman, Chris Wink, and Phil Stanton, who shared an apartment. They wanted to know how normal people would feel about unusual, blue people coming up to them on the street. They even visited bars while painted blue from head to toe.

The groups first public appearance was a “Funeral for the 80s,” during which the three friends dressed in their now-classic blue skin and carried a coffin filled with 80s memorabilia into Central Park. Kurt Loder from MTV covered this now iconic event and gave the group their first taste of country-wide recognition. As the years went on, these creative "disturbances" on the streets eventually found their way to the stage, which hardly seems surprising to anyone who’s seen the show.

What to expect

This epic multimedia storytelling event comprises painted drums, plumbing orchestras, impressive physicality, and even toilet papering the audience. Even though each Blue Man Group member remains silent throughout the entire spectacle, audiences are always enthralled by the out-of-this-world performance that features a wide range of themes, from science and technology to information and pollution.

Awards and Acclaim

The atypical show has earned numerous awards already, including the 1991 Obie Award, the 1992 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, and the 2014 Drum! Magazine Readers Choice Award for Best Percussion. Blue Man Group has expanded on a global scale with international performances in Germany, China, Australia, Canada, Japan, and, of course, the United States.
