Blue Man Group started as a mere social experiment organized by three friends, Matt Goldman, Chris Wink, and Phil Stanton, who shared an apartment. The groups first public appearance was a “Funeral for the 80s,” during which the three friends dressed in their now-classic blue skin and carried a coffin filled with 80s memorabilia into Central Park. Kurt Loder from MTV covered this now iconic event and gave the group their first taste of country-wide recognition. As the years went on, these creative "disturbances" on the streets eventually found their way to the stage, which hardly seems surprising to anyone who’s seen the show.
